"Who are you?"
"Who are you?" came the answer, echoing between the walls and the ceiling that were adorned with little veins of plant roots, protruding from above.
Like in the hall of judgement that Aidan knew from his nightmares, he saw many people around him – people of all ages; some looked ill and tired, others maimed and disfigured and others just curious to find him there. His breath quickened and his hands shivered with cold and unease.They were all dead, there was no doubt about it. But among them, there was no sight of his mother and brother, nor of the men he had murdered - he had so fearfully expected to find them all, judgemental, disappointed, yearning; but they were not there.
"Is this real?"
"Is this real?"
"How do I know what is real?"
"How do you know what is real? What is 'real'?"

I rarely take part in dA contests, but I found this one's theme pretty challenging for me: "Draw/paint/photo/etc your original character dressed in steampunk fashion" (by ) - so I'm doing it And, well, since my novel takes place in the Middle Ages, it was an interesting task! The novel is in fact historical (all fantasy elements are incorporated in visions and halluciations), but in order to draw the character I've enhanced the fantasy part, as you can see in the character description below:

Aidan is a 18 year old priest of noble birth from Northumbria, taken as a slave to Norway during a Viking raid. There, he has to deal with berserkers who shape-shift when enraged, draugr - the evil dead, communicate with spirits, heal and murder. As such, he carries a "celtic" cross amulet, a potions pouch, a herb bag, a belt of silver stakes and magic scrolls.
