Yngvar

His bare chest revealed drawings underneath the dried smeared blood, drawings etched in his skin and coloured in dark stormy-dusk blue. One of them Aidan recognized as the rune Oþal, that very symbol that Hakon had showed Aidan upon their banners.

Finally, a new portrait of Yngvar - my dark and troubled berserker that we see so little of (but I feel more and more comfortable drawing him so I'll show him interacting with other characters soon!).

Yngvar is the leader of the berserkers known as the Sons of Disobedience; he acts as a mentor for Aidan throughout he novel;
The rune Othal mentioned in the description represents heritage and, in my novel, is chosen as the symbol of the Sons of Disobedience who fight for the preservation of their faith againt the conversion to Christianity imposed by Kinf Olaf Tryggvason;
The members of the Varangian guard are known (from Arab accounts) to be heavily tattooed ; it is not known whether Norsemen in Scandinavia wore tattoos, but if they did they should have a similar design to Norse knotwork and runic art (Yngvar's tattoo here is just a doodle, but I will draw his huge tattoos at one point).
